How To Use Cream Base
We have made the preservative separate to the cream base, if you have the cream base that has no separate preservative, please use the following recipe guide How to use Cream Base 1.
If you have the cream base with a separate preservative, follow the steps below.
Formulation:
• 84.1 % Deionised / Distilled water
• 5 % Glycerin
• 10 % Cream Base without preservative
• 0.3 % Fragrance
• 0.6 % Omnicare PEHG
The Equipment:
• Spatula
• Thermometer
• Scale
• 2 x 1 L glass jug
• 2 x Stove hot plate
• 2 x Stainless steel bowls
• A handheld stick blender / Homogeniser
Manufacturing Steps:
Step 1: Weigh and heat your water in one of the glass jugs to 75 - 85° C
Step 2: Add the glycerin and any other water-soluble ingredients you would like to add to the boiling water
Step 3: Weigh the required amount of preservative-free cream base into a separate stainless-steel vessel or glass jug.
Step 4: Heat the cream base using a double boiling method technique until fully melted at 75 – 85 °C. Oil-soluble ingredients such as carrier oils or shea butter, may be added and mix until uniform
Step 5: Once both phases are approximately the same temperature. Slowly add the melted cream base to the water mixture while mixing continuously. Pulse with a handheld stick blender for 3 - 5 minutes and stir for another 5 minutes until a smooth, uniform is obtained.
Step 6: Let the mixture cool down for a bit at below 40 °C. Once temperature is below 40 °C, add the fragrance and any other ingredients such as vitamins or botanical extracts.
Step 7: Add the Omnicare PEHG supplied and mix thoroughly for 5 – 10 minutes to ensure the preservative is evenly distributed throughout.
Step 8: Fill the finished mixture while still pourable, pour it into your packaging of choice. Let it cool down completely without any lids or closures.
Note: If the formulation is too runny or thin, gradually add a small amount of additional Cream Base until the desired consistency is achieved. If the formulation is too thick, gradually add additional deionised/distilled water. When making any adjustments, ensure that the quantities of the other ingredients are adjusted accordingly so that the total formulation remains at 100%.
